Live BLACKi free improvisation at Elias Metal Studio, Art-A-Whirl Festival, Minneapolis, Minnesota, 1999
I met Dan, in 1996, during a Hermetic Gallery visit, in Milwaukee, WI. We shared like minded interests in art and for years there after, we traded original compositions and worked collaboratively, on cassette and CD-R, via the post. In 1999, Dan asked, if I would come and play drums with his improvisational ensemble, BLACKi, performing in Minneapolis, MN, on the asphalt in front of Elias' Metal Studio, the opening act of many throughout the day, at Art-A-Whirl '99.
Aside from a couple physical meetings with Dan, in the years prior, this performance was my first time meeting and playing with this ensemble, there was no rehearsal, just a very short sound check.
